Kept Back

And sometimes you finish writing a post, and God whispers, “Not this one. I didn’t reveal this truth to you so you could boil it, add sugar to it, and can it in big glass jars to be stored on some digital shelf on the internet somewhere. I revealed this truth to you as a father instructs his son, as a lover writes to his beloved. So before you run to exploit my words and turn them into some product, hear them. Know them. Believe them. Bank your life on them. Find your joy in them. And then, and only then, consider how you might point others to the same truth.”

This week, I’m still pondering.

  1. Wow, Eric. Just wow! We could use a lot more pondering – especially as far as internet and posting are concerned. But in our own lives too. You’ve given me some things to ponder as well!

    1. Thank you, Sheila, for your kind words. It’s so precious to think that sometimes God is simply speaking to me, not necessarily so that I can go tell what he’s telling me to others. That is a special kind of intimacy that I must admit I don’t often achieve.

    1. I believe the Spirit of the living God and of his Son the risen Christ does live in me. And I believe sometimes that Spirit tells us to simply be still, not to hold us back but to give us the opportunity to listen rather than constantly talk.
